A Record Fundraising Event Raising over $680,000 for Kid’s Medical Grants!
Capt. Bill and Angela Hammond of Endless Summer Charters were honored to direct the UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF) Fishing Classic in Fort Myers, a premier charity tournament that combines fishing, community spirit, and philanthropy. The event began with a captain’s dinner and welcome reception at the Westin Cape Coral, where anglers, sponsors, and supporters gathered to connect and learn about UHCCF’s mission to participants and United Healthcare’s top officials flying in from all over the U.S.!
The next morning, teams launched with 37 of this area’s best professional guides for a full day of inshore fishing, targeting Southwest Florida favorites such as snook, redfish, and sea trout and the “mystery fish”, mangrove snapper. Some groups competed for fun prize categories like biggest catch or most fish landed, while others enjoyed a relaxing outing on the beautiful waters around Sanibel and Captiva Islands raising over $680,000 and will fund over 450 medical grants for local families!
Proceeds from the event directly supported UHCCF, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides medical grants to help children gain access to health-related services not covered, or not fully covered, by their family’s commercial health insurance. Families may receive up to $5,000 annually per child ($10,000 lifetime maximum), and eligibility does not require UnitedHealthcare insurance. Since 2005, UHCCF has awarded over 40,000 grants valued at more than $80 million to children and families across the United States—funded by generous contributions from individuals, corporations, and UnitedHealth Group employees. The UHCCF Fishing Classic was imagined by Capt. Bill Hammond and a regular guest while fishing off Sanibel Island. His guest, Patrick Stamm, who was president of the foundation, was tired of the run of the mill golf tournaments. After an on- the-water meeting of the minds, the first tournament was born!
