On our inshore trips, black drum root along oyster bars and mangrove edges and put up a bulldog fight on light tackle. Cobia sometimes cruise the beaches and flats or shadow rays, making for exciting sight-casting shots. Jack crevalle blitz bait schools in the bays and will absolutely smoke a topwater plug.
Spanish mackerel slash through bait pods in the passes, delivering fast action on jigs and spoons. Pompano prowl sandy troughs and passes and are a light‑tackle favorite with quick runs. Redfish tail on shallow flats and along mangroves, ideal for sight fishing and family‑friendly action. Sheepshead stack on docks and pilings and reward precise presentations around structure.
Mangrove snapper ambush around mangrove roots and rock piles and are great fun for all skill levels. Snook set up in classic ambush points with explosive strikes and spirited runs. Trout (spotted seatrout) over grass flats offer steady action and are perfect for teaching new anglers. Tripletail hover near crab‑trap buoys and surface debris and are a great target for accurate casts.
